Beginning of the glass industry
On page 1083 of Aligarh Institute Gazetteer of 1880, Urdu poet Maulana Altaf Hussain Hali has written that in Firozabad, date palm leaf fans are made in such a fine quality that they are hardly made anywhere else in India. We also saw a simple fan here which has some silk work on it costing one rupee. This statement makes it clear that till 1880, the glass industry had not started here. According to page 740 of Agra Gazetteer of 1884, at that time, lac business was also in good condition in Firozabad, this business ended with time. But at present, most of the glass bangles, decorative glass items, scientific instruments, bulbs etc. are made in Firozabad. Firozabad is mainly a business of bangles. Here you can see shops of colourful bangles everywhere. Women inside the houses also earn employment by polishing bangles. Most of the glass in India is made in a small city called Firozabad. Most of the people of this city are engaged in the business of making some or the other glass item. Most of the glass bangles are made in this city. After melting the coloured glass, it is pulled and made into a wire and wrapped in the shape of a coil on a cylindrical structure. This structure, which looks like a spring, is cut and open-ended bangles are prepared. Now not only are the ends of these open-ended bangles joined methodically, but the bangles are also made uniform so that the joined ends But no piece of glass should be left out. This is a slow process in which the glass has to be heated and cooled.
The aim of the workshop is to experiment and develop new products according to the needs and preferences of the contemporary market by utilizing the traditional skills of the artisans and introducing new techniques and technologies for improved production. The handicraft artisan should be able to experiment boldly in design and for this purpose it is necessary to provide a framework and process which gives the necessary freedom to the designer.

Packaging should be able to beautify a product to add to its visual appeal. The purpose of product packaging is to protect the product from damage. Product packaging not only protects the product during transit from the manufacturer to the retailer, but it also prevents damage. With each passing day the number of packaging materials is decreasing. Apart from the traditional paper-plastic, glass, metal packaging, people have started to explore the use of new raw materials.
It can instantly attract the attention of the audience towards a product. You can create interest in the customer's mind towards a product through attractively designed packaging.
To provide guidance to young entrepreneurs in the field of handicrafts to explore opportunities to start their own business, To improve the quality of design and packaging for handicraft products, To create interest in the mind of customers towards a product through packaging, District- In Firozabad, a workshop on glass work was organized by PAHAL The Beginning in which 25 participants received 15 days training which was a very successful program.
It is essential to provide training on packaging of handicrafts to artisans and exporters to upgrade the current packaging of their handicraft products and do better business in India and abroad. This will improve their sales and their livelihood along with the benefits to the related sectors.
