The history of woodworking dates back to prehistoric times, when
humans used sharp stones to carve wood for tools and weapons. Woodworking has been an important part
of human civilization and has been used to create beautiful, decorative, and
useful objects. With
advances in modern technology and the demands of industry, woodworking as a
field has changed. For
example, the development of computer numeric controlled (CNC) machines has made
it possible to mass-produce and reproduce products with less waste and often
with more complex designs than ever before. CNC wood routers can carve complex and highly detailed shapes into
flat stock, allowing signs or art to be created. Rechargeable power tools speed the creation of many projects and
require much less physical strength than previously, for example when drilling
many holes. However, skilled
fine woodworking is still a craft practiced by many people. There remains a demand for hand-crafted
work such as furniture and art, although with the rate and cost of production,
the cost is too high for consumers. Modern woodcarving usually refers to works of wood art produced by
woodcarvers as contemporary art. This type of wood carving often combines traditional techniques
with more modern artistic styles and concepts. Modern wood carvings can be created in many forms and styles,
ranging from realistic to abstract carvings, and often use unusual wood
materials such as ravenwood or wood with unique textures to highlight the
uniqueness of the work. In
recent years, the art of modern wood carving has become increasingly popular
among wood craftsmen and visual arts enthusiasts not only in Asia, but around
the world. Modern wood
carving art is often displayed in art galleries and museums, and can be seen in
many global contemporary art exhibitions.
Cedar is a strong, aromatic softwood that is able to tolerate the
outdoor elements, the most common of which is Western Red Cedar. Western Red Cedar can tolerate wet
environments without rotting, and as a result is commonly used for outdoor
projects such as patios, outdoor furniture, and building exteriors.
Objective of the Programme:-
The aim of the workshop is to experiment and develop new products as per
the needs and preferences of the contemporary market by utilizing the
traditional skills of the artisans and introducing new techniques and
technologies for improved production. The handicraft artisan should be able to experiment boldly in
design. For this purpose it is essential to provide a framework and process
which gives the necessary freedom to the designer.
Another main purpose
of using design/packaging is to exaggerate the product. A marketer needs to grab the attention
of a viewer to buy the product. Packaging should be able to beautify a product to add to its
visual appeal. The purpose
of product packaging is to protect the product from damage. Product packaging not only protects the
product during transit from the manufacturer to the retailer, but it also prevents
damage. With each passing
day the number of packaging materials is decreasing. Apart from the traditional paper-plastic, glass, metal packaging,
people have started to explore the use of new raw materials.
It can instantly
attract the attention of the audience towards a product. You can create interest in the
customer's mind towards a product through attractively designed packaging.
Designing /
Packaging Importance: The role of
packaging has become very important as it helps to grab the attention of the
audience. Packaging can be used by marketers to encourage potential buyers to
purchase a product. Packaging is also
used for convenience and information dissemination on how to use, transport,
recycle or dispose of the package or product.
Features of
Designing/Packaging :- It is the process of enclosing and covering a
product or object. It is a group of
general activities of product planning. Packaging is related to the designing
and making of wrapping or wrappers for a product. It is an art and science. It
is a new practice and a unique promotional technique. It is a medium to safely
deliver the related product to the customers or consumers.
It is essential to
provide training on handicraft packaging to the artisans and exporters to
upgrade the current packaging of their handicraft products and do better
business in India and abroad. This will improve their sales and their livelihood along with the
benefits to the related sectors.
